GOD'S IMPROVED PRESENCE
A Guidebook on the Holy Spirit for Individual or Group Use

Forward by Alvin N. Rogness,
President Emeritus,
Luther Theological Seminary:

"This book is one of many that have grown out of the fresh interest in the work of the Holy Spirit in most of the major non-pentecostal churches. Without disclaiming the traditions of the sacramental and liturgical forms of the Spirit's ministry, Pastor Kvamme calls us to examine what God may be telling us in this recent widespread concern with the movement of the Spirit. He writes out of his own thirty years as a parish pastor and military chaplain. Both from the Old Testament and the New, and especially from the life of Jesus and the witness of the apostle Paul, he points to truths that the church has always embraced, but not always taken as seriously as it might have.

No Christian can read it without serious, sometimes troubled, self-examination. Have we ignored gifts that God is eager to give us? Have we been indifferent to the power and joy and comfort that might have been ours? Have love of God and service to the neighbor eluded us because of our caution or disbelief? Could the fellowship in the congregation be the richer if we became more open to the prodding of the Spirit?

This book will deepen our trust in God: it will give boldness and expectation to our prayers; it will enrich our fellowship in the church. Besides being a blessing to the individual reader, with the helps offered in an appendix it can be a splendid tool for group study and edification. The book is itself a gift of the Spirit." --Alvin N. Rogness

MIRACLES TODAY
Understanding How God Participates in Our Lives

Marv's back was broken in a car accident. Several doctors told him that he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. But he began to walk, first with crutches and then with a cane. He claimed that the accident had resulted in a new peace with God that outweighed his problems and pain. The first day he walked without a cane, he came to church so the congregation could kneel at the altar in thanksgiving.

But John, a younger man who also broke his back, has remained in a wheelchair for several years -- with no prospect of ever leaving it.

What do we say when God heals one person but not another? How can we rejoice with those who are healed without adding discouragement to those not relieved of their illness, pain, or handicap?

Christians have been intrigued with the miraculous since Bible times. Major questions on miracles -- obvious, positive answers to prayer, faith healing, etc. -- remain unanswered by many writers and speakers.

Miracles Today sets forth the authenticity of Christ's miracles in comparison with those that are alleged or expected to occur today. Numerous case histories are offered, with applications made between miracles in Christ's day and in the 20th century. Through the use of Scripture, not sensationalism, the workings of God are addressed and validated.

Rodney A. Kvamme is the retired senior pastor at First Lutheran Church in Havre, MT. He and his family live in Seeley Lake, MT.

PROFILES OF THE CHRIST
by Rodney A. Kvamme

The awe and wonder experienced by those being introduced to Jesus for the first time are captured in this book of meditations. In describing the events of Christ's death and resurrection, the author reminds us of their eternal significance and renews the impact of Jesus' sacrifice.

The life and purpose of the Lord Jesus are viewed from the standpoint of the unreasonableness of his love. Using original illustrations taken largely from personal life experiences, the author presents new and often startling profiles of the Christ.

Christ is seen born to die, walking in our steps, loving the ugly, seeking and salvaging, dying for dead men, waiting in line, hosting a unique meal, and alive again. These phrases, all based on New Testament passages, are chapter titles in this compelling and lucid book.
