The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks thumped Florence, 73-58, before a home crowd last Friday night, then traveled to Frenchtown on Saturday with not enough to overpower the number two 5-B team.
Junior guard Joe McCoy dazzled Florence defenders, driving the baseline for several twisting layups, scoring a career-high 20 points as the Hawks held off periodic attempts by Florence to make the game close.
But McCoy was just one of four Blackhawks in double figures, with support coming from Lelan Anders 13, Chris Auchenbach 13, and Justin Taylor with 13. Additional support came from Bobby Clark with 8 and Cameron Gamache with 7.
At Frenchtown, the Hawks held a first-quarter lead 18-17, but fell behind in the second period when Frenchtown gained a 5-point advantage at halftime, 29-24.
Chris Auchenbach and Joe McCoy managed double figures at 15 and 14 respectively, but the effort wasn't enough as Frenchtown forged a 55-48 win. Other scoring was by Lelan Anders 8, Cameron Gamache 7, Bobby Clark 2 and Justin Taylor 2.
The Hawks take on Loyola, the leading District 5-B team, on the home court this Friday.
