The Alpine Artisans are offering four $40 scholarships to help students with tuition for a boat-building class to be held mid-April in Condon.

The class, Building the Six Hour Canoe, is being offered by Flathead Valley Community College, through their continuing education program.

Full tuition for the course is $89. The class will be held on two consecutive weekends, April 10 & 11, and April 17 & 18 in Condon. Charles Grant, boatbuilder from Salmon Prairie, will guide students in the fundamentals of buiding a lightweight, plywood canoe suitable for use by one adult or two children on small lakes and ponds.

Grant explained that students will gain hands-on experience in boat building. "The whole class builds one canoe," he said recently.

For more information about registering for the class, contact Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, 756-3832.
