Samantha Dorne, Salmon Prairie Elementary student has been named the winner of a state-wide poster contest for fifth grade students.

The poster contest has been conducted by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks as a means for enhancing the understanding and awareness of Montana's State Parks.

In April a panel of judges selected Samantha Dorne's entry for first place. Her poster, a creative colored pencil drawing, captured the theme, "Montana State Parks Are Home to Many Plants and Animals," by covering the entire poster with a variety of plants and animals that one would see while visiting Bannack State Park.

"The poster illustrated wonderful imagination and originality through the use of both text and humor in the poster scene," according to Debbie Cheek, field support supervisor with FW&P.

The first place winner will receive a $150 saving bond, and a T-shirt with her poster screened on the front. Her school will receive a State Park video and books for its library.

Her award will be presented to Samantha at a picnic in June.
