Seeley Swan Pathfinder
Seeley Lake, Montana
The Seeley Lake Christmas Race, an informal gathering of mushers and teams from around the state, will be running Saturday and Sunday on the trails to Rice Ridge and Pyramid Pass.
Doug Willett, coordinator of this race, said spectators are encouraged to watch the teams start at around 11 a.m. each day at the Morrell Creek Trailhead on Cottonwood Lakes road just north and east of Seeley Lake.
Willett said he expects between 20 and 30 teams to take part in two classes, an unlimited class that will make a 28-mile loop to Rice Ridge and back, and an eight-dog team class that will run 18.5 miles each day to the Pyramid Pass Trailhead and back.
Conditions are good, Willett said. There's not a lot of snow, but enough for the sleds, he added, noting that the dogs will love the "cool" temperatures we've been having.
