This handler is trying to turn loose dogs who had just arrived
at the Seeley Lake checkpoint lae Monday afternoon in heavy snow.
Mushers continued on to Holland Lake battling more "heavy,
wet snow," and race officials decided Tuesday to bypass
the return from Holland Lake. Only seven mushers of 18 that had
started the race, remained in the running at this point. These
mushers and dogs were boxed and trucked back to Seeley Lake for
a restart on to the finish line in Lincoln where a Whitefish
carpenter, Butch Parr, was expected to win the race late Tuesday
evening, according to Race to the Sky secretary Pam Otto. Behind
him were Buck Church and Harry Lambirth.
Local musher Cindy Ogden was one 11 mushers who withdrew
from the race due to the heavy, drifting snow on the trail to
Holland Lake.
