The Seeley Lake Historical Society recently received a $1200 grant from the Montana Community Foundation for an Antiques Road Show slated for this fall. Funding for this grant was provided through the Latigo Rural Development Fund, which began when founders of the Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive elected to have the proceeds from the Cattle Drive invested in a manner that would serve rural Montana communities. They established a permanent endowment at Montana Commuity Foundation, designating that the earnings from the fund be granted throughout Montana to support the further development, education and welfare of rural Montana citizens; the viability of Montana's rural communities; and the development of its rural economy.
"The MCF grant will allow us to provide for western Montana a professional opportunity to have personal antiques assessed and evaluated," stated Cindy Torok, President of the Historical Society. Also in the planning stage is coordination with the Blackfoot Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Foundation to provide speakers and other information on the following day - creating a "history weekend." Anyone interested in assisting with planning, please call Cindy Torok, Addrien Marx, Elva Cox, Billie Sytsma or Rod Kvamme.
