Seeley Lake Eagles Win Hamilton Hoop-A-Thon
This past Saturday and Sunday found hundreds of people and dozens of teams in the Bitterroot Valley for the Second Annual Hamilton Hoop-A-Thon three on three basketball tournament. Seeley sent a team consisting of Cody Hard, Zach Nelson, Brody Klemer and Tanner Marlatt. There were a total of 14 eighth grade teams in the tourney with teams from as far away as Helena. The rules of the game were 20 minute running clock or the first team to 20 points, with each basket counting as one. In the Eagles first game their draw was the Hamilton Schoolers. Seeley shot a blistering 20 for 29 in the game and easily won 20-12.

The second test for Seeley would be a squad from Helena. Helena had a much bigger team, but could not match the Eagles' quickness. The Eagles pounded out an easy 19-8 victory behind Cody Hard's nine baskets, Zach Nelson's 10 rebounds and Marlatt's team high four assists.

The Eagles would end a long Saturday with a late match-up with a Valley Christian squad. Valley hung tough with Seeley for half the game, but strong inside play down the stretch by Hard and Klemer helped seal a 20-14 victory.

Sunday morning found the boys up early for a 9:00 a.m. game. They would face off against the Stevensville Sting. Seeley played outstanding ball and totally dominated this game, winning easily 20-2. Great team balance and defense stung Stevensville's semi-final chances. Zach Nelson led Seeley with seven baskets and seven rebounds.

The Stevensville victory would set up a tough semi-final game with the Hamilton Rainmakers. This was a hard fought, physical game in front of a loud Hamilton cheering section. The Eagles used great ball control and passing down the stretch and hung on for an 18-15 victory.

With less than a 10 minute rest, Seeley Lake would have to hit the court again in the championship game. Their opponent would be the Hellgate Elementary Raptors. This team consisted of the star players of the team who took second place at the Maverick Tournament.
This game was close early and at one point was tied 7-7. Seeley pulled away with strong inside scoring by Hard and great rebounding by Klemer and Nelson. Marlatt hit two key baskets late, and the Eagles held on to win the championship game 17-12.
