The Seeley-Swan Ladyhawks made it past the first round of Western B Divisional Basketball tournament last week in Hamilton, but then hit a slump and lost the next two matches, ending their season at 12-13.
Playing second place 6-B Thompson Falls in the opener last Thursday afternoon, the Ladyhawks led by five at half-time and by 10 going into the fourth quarter where a 15-8 run gave them a comfortable margin in the end, 50-33.
Shyanne Feucht led the offense with 13 points, hitting 6 of 9 from the field where the Ladyhawks averaged 48 percent. Abbie Christianson was in double figures with 11 and Lara Parker finished with 8, Crystal Wood 6, Jesse Diamond 4, Hayley Blackburn 4, Blair Barthelmess 2, and Anne Leishman 2.
Third-ranked and undefeated Florence had a tough time with the Ladyhawks before they pulled away for good in the final two minutes to win by ten, 41-31, and advance to the finals where they defeated Loyola.
The first quarter set the tone for a low-scoring, defensive battle, with Florence managing to post a 9-3 lead with the Ladyhawks putting their three points up from the free throw line.
Down by six, 21-15 at half-time, the Ladyhawks charged back with four quick points to make it a three-point game, 21-19, before turning cold from the field, managing only ten points for remainder of the game.
A late rally sparked by three-pointers from Lara Parker and Abbie Christianson put the Ladyhawks within three, 37-31, with two minutes left to play, but turnovers gave Florence the opportunity to pull away and hold the Ladyhawks at bay.
Shyanne Feucht led the Ladyhawks with 12 points, Abbie Christianson had 6, Lara Parker 4, Jesse Diamond 4, Hayley Blackburn 2, Crystal Wood 2, and Blair Barthelmess 1.
In loser-out action Saturday morning, the Ladyhawks turned cold in the second half, giving up a 24-20 half-time lead when Eureka exploded with a 21-7 run in the third period and held on to end the Ladyhawks' season 55-42. The Ladyhawks had 30 turnovers in the game.
