SSTEP, the local domestic violence and sexual assault group, is made up of men and women in the Seeley Swan Valley. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and SSTEP volunteers have a great month planned.

They'll start with presentations at the grade school. The first through third grade will discuss how the things kids say and school ground bullying and hitting hurts so many people. After the discussion, they'll get to draw and color their hands and a set of lips on a poster, which will be glued to grocery bags at Wold's Valley Market throughout the month.

The fourth graders will watch a movie, have a discussion and also make posters to put on grocery bags.

On October 26th, SSTEP will sponsor a ceremony for the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse in the Mission Bible Fellowship parking lot at 7:30 p.m.. The public is welcome to purchase a luminary to commemorate a friend, family member or acquaintance whose life has been touched by domestic violence, sexual assault or abuse. The luminaries will be lit and displayed at the October 26th program, and everyone is invited. Luminaries are being sold for $5 through the SSTEP office at 677-3177.

Tables offering information, T-shirts and luminaries will be set up at the Seeley Lake Fire Hall on October 1st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Wold's Valley Market October 21st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The SSTEP program provides immediate help for victims and a great opportunity for the community to get involved through training sessions to help victims, educational projects, and transportation for victims.

The group has grown through training sessions to help victims, educational projects, and transportation for victims. The group has grown to 25 members of the community, and has directly helped over 40 victims of these crimes.

Domestic violence and sexual assault effects thousands of men, women and children each year. The SSTEP program is here to help. If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer, give them a call at 677-3177, or stop by one of the activities during the month.
