Gordy Sanders of Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Seeley Lake, Montana, was selected "Communicator of the Year" by the Montana Wood Products Association at its annual convention September 7.

According to MWPA President Joe Brooke, this award recognizes an individual who has improved the general public's awareness and understanding of issues important to the forest products industry. "Gordy Sanders," said Brooke, "is a perfect example of a person who is always active in promoting sound forest management."

Sanders is currently the Chairman of the Montana Tree Farm Association and the Chairman of the Montana Society of American Foresters. He worked closely with the Habitat for Humanity organization to promote a model program called "Forests for Humanity" whereby tree farmers donated logs, loggers and haulers donated their services, and forest products companies donated manufacturing or in-kind cash for the construction of a Habitat House.

"Gordy Sanders is a true leader in the promotion of responsible forest management in Montana," said Brooke, "and he has particularly excelled this year in his efforts to 'get out the message.' He is truly deserving of the MWPA Communicator of the Year award."
