Seeley Swan Pathfinder
Seeley Lake, Montana
The Blackfoot Chapter of the Lewis & Clark Heritage Foundation
will meet Thursday, April 19th at 7 p.m. at The Emily A Bed &
Breakfast. (note location change from Salmon Lake) Anyone interested
in learning more about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and what
the local chapter has planned for the next months, is welcome
to attend.
The speaker will be Alex Philp, Director of the National Lewis & Clark Educational Center at the University of Montana, and Assistant Director of the Earth Observing System Project at the University. He will explain how the Lewis & Clark Expedition's trails are currently being studied using modern technologies, such as Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System and remote sensing imagery. Part of this work is being funded by NASA through the University, and is intended for use in K - 12 classroom curricula.
Although the Expedition kept detailed notes over most of their route, the return trip back East through the Blackfoot Valley in 1806, is somewhat sketchy in their Journals. Come on the 19th to hear what new information has been learned about the Corps of Discovery's trail through our state.
