way to Junior Nationals

Jessie Diamond, a student at Seeley-Swan High School, and daughter of Robin and Joni Diamond of Seeley Lake, has been selected as part of the Montana State Girls Basketball Team to participate in the USA Junior Nationals Championship Sports Festival on July 23-29, 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The USA Junior Nationals provides one of the top amateur competitions in the United States and offers its program to all varsity athletes who have a high interest in basketball and are committed to developing their skills and techniques through statewide, national and international competition.

Becoming a part of the Montana State Team is a special honor for Jessie, because during the second game of a three game series, she dislocated her left knee cap, eliminating her from the series. However, three requirements for becoming a USA Junior Nationals athlete are positive attitude, time commitment, and advanced skills. The coaches must have been able to see these qualities in Jessie in the short time she played, for she was one of 18 girls to be selected out of approximately 60 who attended tryouts in April, 2001. The festival is held during the NJCAA/NCAA/NAIA recruiting period and invitations are sent to the coaches and scouts to colleges of all levels.

The sports festival is to be held July 23-29, 2001 at the Suanee Sports Academy in Suanee, Georgia. Jessie is seeking help in funding this trip, where costs are estimated to be $1550. Any funds raised over the cost of this trip will be set aside to help the next girl's basketball player from Seeley Swan go to the JR National competition in years to come. Send your sponsorships to Jessie Diamond, PO Box 627, Seeley Lake MT 59868.
