Celebration of Trees

A "Celebration of Trees" has been held in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000. Sponsored by the Seeley Lake Senior Center and chaired by Rod Kvamme, it grew out of four previous "Founders Day" events. With good support from Pyramid Mountain Lumber and the cooperation of many businesses and individuals, it offered local historical highlights and a variety of events for the weekend following National Arbor Day, the fourth Friday of April.

Three other community events have or will have incorporated activities offered by the Celebration of Trees, so a separate "celebration" is no longer necessary. The Alpine Artisans now sponsor an annual "Loon and Fish Festival" on Memorial Day weekend. It includes a Bird-watching walk, woodcarving demonstrations, canoe building demo, art-works display/sales, and raffles. The Seeley Lake Historical Society will have its second "Seeley Lake Antique and Historical Road Show" this September. Displays and live presentations will emphasize our past history, and qualified appraisers will be available for assessing old items. There will also be an old-time dance on Saturday evening.

Lastly, a first annual "Tamaracks Festival: A Celebration of Trees" will be sponsored this October by the local Chamber of Commerce. Among other events in the planning stage, there will be a juried art show, guided forest walks, interpretive presentations at the national champion Western Larch tree in the Jim Girard Memorial Grove, and community musical talent opportunities.

Each of these events offer fun, education, entertainment and deserve the community's full support and attendance.
