Two seats open on
Community Council

March 1, 2001
Seeley Swan Pathfinder
Seeley Lake, Montana

The Seeley Lake Community Council is looking for two people to fill vacant positions.

The Council is a body of seven individuals composed of six elected community representatives and one Seeley Lake resident appointed by the Missoula Board of County Commissioners. The Council was established in part to advance and promote the interests and welfare of the residents of the Seeley Lake community. The Council also informs the Missoula County Commissioners and other County departments about issues within the Seeley Lake Area. By working with permanent and part-time residents, state and federal agencies, property owners and visitors, the Council seeks to assist local government in making decisions that benefit the Seeley area. Another role of the Council is facilitate communication with and among the various boards which govern the local infrastructures.

The Community Council is serving to help coordinate and facilitate community efforts to deal with the Pyramid Mountain Lumber situation. Regardless of whether or not Pyramid continues to operate, certain issues will need attention for the future of our community.

During the next few months the priority of the Council will be directed towards getting the Comprehensive Plan completed in an effort to outline the direction in which residents wish the community to proceed for its growth and development.

Recruiting two new members now will avoid the necessity of holding an election next spring. If the vacated positions can be filled by appointment, the Council will be spared the time and expenses of an election.
