Seeley Swan Pathfinder
April 30, 1998
Swan Valley Librarian, Fern Kauffman, will be one of the featured workshop
presenters at the Montana State Genealogical Society Conference set for
May 1-2 in Missoula.
The conference is open to the public and will feature a variety of workshops, including Oral History Interviewing, Family Storytelling, Military Records, Genealogy Online and Native American Family Research.
The conference is being held in conjunction with the State Library Convention in Missoula, and registered attendees may participate in both events.
Kauffman, and her cousin Larry Spicer, will share information about Mennonite History and Records, and give an overview of the 472 years of Anabaptist heritage shared by Amish and Menonnite cultures. Spicer is Associate Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Great Falls.
The Kauffman family's background includes both Mennonite and Amish heritage. Fern Kauffman helped her grandmother assemble two books of Mennonite history, and has been involved in genealogical research for many years. Her father-in-law, Reuben Kauffman also of Condon, helped publish a history of the Mennonite community at Creston several years ago.
